Obituary of Barbara Lee Proffitt

BARBARA LEE PROFFITT July 4, 1927 May 14, 2009 Our beloved wife and mother, Barbara Lee Proffitt, entered into heavenly rest on May 14, 2009 at Enloe Hospital in Chico, surrounded by family, following a lengthy illness. She was born July 4, 1927 in Parkersburg, West Virginia to William B. King and Ullainee Gainer. She was the granddaughter of the late Dr. Rev. William B. King, Sr., former Methodist minister and one-time chaplain of the WV State Senate. She graduated from Parkersburg High School and attended Moundsville State College in WV. She later moved to Weirton, WV. She met her beloved husband William Owen Proffitt in Weirton, WV and they married in North Carolina in 1960. They lived in Weirton until they moved to Chico in 1963. Barbara worked in the medical field for about 40 years, including long-term office manager for the late Dr. Albert E. Warrens, Pathologist in Chico. She loved music, playing piano and was very artistic. She loved spending time at the ocean in Ft. Bragg, CA. She loved animals, especially the Doberman dogs. She especially loved the prayer of St. Francis of Assissi. She had a good memory and could recite various poets. She was a very giving person, a wise and patient mother with a kind sweet nature. She was a very giving person & thought of others before herself. She was preceded in death by her brother, William Jack King. She is survived by her husband, William O. Proffitt; her children, Kelli Pyles of Chico, Barbara Williams of Elk Grove, David Pyles of Seattle, William M. Proffitt of Oroville and Mary Alyson Kelly of Citrus Heights; her grandchildren Elesa, Jarod, Shannon and Melaney; and one great- grandson, Shawn; one great-granddaughter on the way and several nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the staff at Enloe Hospital and her various doctors for the wonderful care they gave during her two-week stay. Visitation will be held Monday, May 18, 2009 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bidwell Chapel. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Trinity United Methodist Church.
