Obituary of James Irwin Johnson

JAMES (JIM) JOHNSON James (Jim) Johnson of Chico, California passed away on Saturday, March 26, 2022 at the age of 87. Jim was born in Chico, California on March 24, 1935. He graduated from Chico High School in 1953 then joined the United States Marine Corp where he proudly served his country.

Jim was a lifetime member of the Chico Elks Lodge #423 and dedicated many hours to its programs and community projects. Jim was deeply humbled when honored as Elk Volunteer of the Year. Jim loved fishing, restoring vehicles and building things. He was the ultimate "handyman". His vibrant personality was infectious.

Jim is survived by Diane Johnson, his loving wife of 43 years. He leaves behind his children Toni Columbo (Russ), James Johnson Jr. (Sherry), Jeff Johnson (Stephanie), Marie Ridenour, Steve Ridenour (Cindy), Patti Salomon (Jeff); his endearing sisters Patricia (Bunch) Wallstrom and Betty (Bunch) Jessee; his cousin Ron Bunch; along with many nephews, nieces, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father and mother James and Ruth Bunch, and his aunt Virginia Libby.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, April 8, 2022 at 11:00 am at Glen Oaks Memorial Park, Hegan Lane & Midway, Chico, California. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the healthcare providers at California Park Rehabilitation Hospital (Willow Station) for their wonderful care of Jim in recent years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Jim's name to the Chico Elks Lodge #423, Building Fund, in care of Brusie Funeral Home, Chico, California.
