Obituary of Dorothy Jean Hagen

Dorothy “Dottie” Jean Hagen was born July 13, 1934, in Dickenson, North Dakota to John and Jennie Kennedy. They moved to Washington when Dottie was 5 and she graduated from Kelso High School.  She married the love of her life, Gordon Hagen, on May 29, 1954, in Cowlitz County, Washington.  Together they moved several times and eventually settled in Chico, California in 1960 to raise their four children.  Gordon passed in 2017: they were married 63 years.

Dottie valued family and to her, family was more than shared DNA.  Anyone who stopped to visit could get a tuna sandwich, orange tea, and something out of the cookie jar.  You would be sure to find her gardening, counting the blooms on her beloved cacti, or participating in aqua aerobics at her local gym.  She was a devoted grandmother and attended all the kids’ sporting events, performances, graduations, etc.  She enjoyed taking long drives and spending time with the people she loved.

Dottie’s house was a refuge, a safe place, “home.”  Everyone was welcome and treated with love.

Dorothy passed into glory on November 29, 2022, in Chico.  She is survived by three children, ten grandchildren, and fourteen great-grandchildren.
