Obituary of Matias Cabral

Matias (Mat) Cuauhtemoc Cabral of Chico passed away at the age of 81. He is survived by his wife of 60 years. Concepcion Cabral, three daughters; Carmen (Salvador) Ramirez, Claudia (Salvador) Villegas, and Carol (Berton) Bertagna; five granddaughters, three grandsons, two greatgrandchildren, four brothers and three sisters. Matias was born Feb. 24, 1942 in Jerez, Zacatecas, Mexico to Fransisco and Carmen Cabral, he grew up in a farming and ranching family before moving to Mills Orchard, California in 1961. Married in 1963, Matias and Concepcion bought their first home in Hamilton City in 1972, where he worked at Holly Sugar for 17 years. When Holly Sugar closed, he worked at Johns Manville in Willows, retiring in 2005. In 2015, he and his wife moved to Chico, where he spent his retirement years playing the game he loved, golf. He was a member of the SIRS and Bidwell Golf Course, where he later worked as a Marshall. A Catholic Rosary will be held at 6pm, Oct. 29 at St. Mary's Church in Hamilton City. A Funeral Mass will be at 10am Oct 30 at St. John's Catholic Church in Chico, followed by a graveside service at Chico Cemetery. Following the services celebration of life will be held at Almendra Winery & Distillery in Durham, CA.
